Senior Airman

I must admit ignorance here as I am confused at how Trace became a Senior Airman without being a pilot. Is an airman anyone who goes up in the planes?

Ignorance is only a problem when you hide it and do not try to become informed. You have asked so I will explain.

Any person who has enlisted in the Air Force is an airman. It does not mean Air Force Pilot. You can get an expination at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senior_Airman there is a link there to the insignias they wear.

Airman Basic - a person in basic (boot camp), a recruit.

Airman - a graduate of basic. Like a private in the army.

Airman Fisrt Class - Usually given when one gets finished with one's specialized training. Like a Private, First Class in the Army.

Senior Airman - Rank of E-4. Sorta like a Corperal in the Army. Then next rank is Staff Sergent.
