Hang Loose

Carolyn and Joe are in Hawaii. The island of Kauai, to be exact. We are having too much fun to worry whether Jean thinks the blog is boring or not! If I knew how, I would send a picture to show you how much fun we're having. But let's just say, you wish you were here. I'm posting this at 3 am because my body is still on EST, which makes it great for seeing the sunrise on this island. I'm not sure how these people live without air conditioning, though. We hiked up the most challenging trail I've ever been on yesterday. Great for the knees etc. We quit the upward ascent when a pregnant woman carrying a 3 year old passed us like it was nothing. Signing off now. Aloha and mahalo

And now "This"

A primary school teacher was arrested today at John F. Kennedy International Airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a set square, a slide rule and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General John Ashcroft said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of maths instruction."Al-gebra is a problem for us," Ashcroft said."They desire solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in a search of absolute value. They use secret code names like 'x' and 'y' and refer to themselves as 'unknowns', but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, 'There are 3 sides to every triangle'.When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of maths instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes.White House aides told reporters they could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by the President.

The Jury Is Still Out

Well, 10 days into my new job, and I'm drowning under a mountain of backlog. No wonder the girl is leaving. There's a LOT of work at this desk. We'll see whether I can turn it around. It remains to be seen... more later.

Meanwhile, whenever you start a new job that is WAY too busy, always go on a vacation right away. We leave for Hawaii on 8/24, exactly one month after arriving at the new employment. Crazy. The paycheck I got yesterday was great, tho.
