Blog corrections

Joanne is back in AK, but George is still in Florida finishing his program. They have not yet made their decision, but are working on it.

Branson, MO used to be "cute" but now it's like a country-style Vegas, with lots of shows. The surrounding area is the Ozarks, which is gorgeous. Brian and Debbie don't live in Branson, but you have the state right. Grandma and Grandpa Lambert and Joanne and I went there for one of their Army reunions years ago - had a good time. But that was in the fall when the colors were turning. Travel safely and have fun (camp is going on without you).

Joanne & George's Return

Well, the good news is that Joanne & George are home safe. The bad news is that they have had to return and still do not have all the issues resolved. Hopefully God will give them the guidance soon and that they will make the right step.

My personal hope is that they accept the posititon in Florida and return there, but I have a lot less invested in this than they do and know much less about all the details.

Anyway, Geo & Jo, glad you are safe and sound and in your own bed.

Tulsa

Jennell,
I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your excursion over the summer. I love to travel and see other areas of the country. It truley is a lovely world that God has given us and is so complicated and varied.

I guess the bad side is that you are helping a friend move away. But I know that you are able to make new friends and meet more exciting people.

Or you could just call everyone

Carolyn,
Yup, posting on the blog is a great way to spread the news. It saves making a bunch of calls and the time and expense of it all. And we can read it on our own time. But now we have to get the blogless and the blog-deprived and the blog-aphobics involved.

Reporting from Oklahoma!

Well, I can see that lots has been happening while I've been away! I'm glad Grandma was feeling well enough to travel...Not glad that Aunt Joanne got away before I returned home. What does it mean that the Uncle George's job is "in the wind?" Ummm??? They are moving? :) Not moving? :(

I have been having a great time in Tulsa. It is MUCH prettier than I ever thought possible. There are lots of hills and trees and horses and...it's really nice. We made it from Florida in two days with all four dogs, the cat, and the bird. They are all settled into their new home...which is also very nice. There are deer that come every morning and every evening because the former owner feeds them (he moved next door so he is still doing it here). There are about 7 birdhouses hanging from the tree right outside the back windows. There are hummingbirds and cardinals, and some bright yellow and black birds that come to visit. The two squirrel feeder attract some attention too. The sunroom looks out onto all of that and up the hill...which is bordered by the farm of Garth Brooks.

Today we went about 1/2 an hour away to an amish farm and bakery...can't wait to try the cookies we got. Tomorrow we are going to go to Grant Lake which is supposed to be pretty. We decided to spend a few days sightseeing before I go home to enter into the caos of the new school year. Nancy also wants to go to a "cute little town that everyone says is a great place to visit." The name...Branson (sp?), Missouri. Isn't that where Brian Castle and family live? If so, is it really "cute?"

Well, it's getting late, so I've gotta run. Hasta la vista! :)

Joanne made it to AK

Joanne called at 7:30pm EST to say that she had arrived in AK safely. She asked Joe to let the whole family know. The best way to do that is to tell it to the BLOG!

Oh yeah, I added a hit counter on the lower right, just to keep an eye on the activity. I started it at 100 to account for the previous hits.

New template

You know me, I get bored of things being the same way all the time. So I decided to change the look of the blog. This is colorful, and I changed some of the looks from the standard template that Blogger gives me to work with. Anyway, it will last for a while like this...but, well, who knows....

Love ya all,

I'm going home-Jo at Car's computer right now

I have had a whirlwind tour, and I'm outa here.  Tried to buy houses and lands; too confusing, and not enough cash.  Tried to get a job for George, and that's in the wind; got to go home and tell the school.  Tried to eat at everyone's house; now must go home and diet....Tried to see everybody at once, and ended up at a Party for the President!  Tried to make a ruckus at the hospital with Mom; very successful endeavor.  (BTW, that word is the very one which ended my career with the 3rd grade spelling bee, and I've never forgotten how to spell endeavor.  At the time Daddy had never even told me that word existed, so it's all  his fault). Now Carolyn says I have latent blame issues.  What does she know?
Regarding Trace, I just can't believe you aren't able to share the wealth of the experience with more of them soldiers....I will pray for him, as everyday at work I pass by the Military bulletin board where we have all put pictures of our relatives who are serving for us.
Tomorrow I'll be at the airport at 4:30 am for a bunch of flights that already have too many "non-rev" passengers, meaning that I'll be stuck in Moron-land (Salt Lake City) having to sleep until the next day's flight.  I'm such a good Mother that I'm going home to get Becki ready for college and Carrie ready to visit Hawaii for the first time.  She will meet up with a guy who is interested in showing her his family.  And no, I don't know any more information than that, so direct your curiosities directly to MissNeko@iname.com.  She would be one of the delinquent ones who has never bothered to blog.  We could call these people blog snots. Booger-boogers.  Blogger-boogers.  There it is--that's it, they're BB's in my book.  But then who reads my book? I'm tired and going home now.  I love you all, and if I get sleepless in seattle, be sure to write.  Or blog.  What is the verb for this thing I'm doing?  Blogging.  Of course.  Hope someone has more interesting things to say than I do.  My brain is fried from trips to the hospital, Key West, Hypoluxo Island (just a non-island where houses can be rented for a mere $12,000./month).

Trace will be in the Mideast again August 1

I chatted with Trace this evening. He says that he will be shipping out earlier than expected. He is leaving Sunday for his tour of the Mideast. He expects to return in time for Christmas, but promises from the military are mearly suggestions, so...

He reports that all is well, he just bought a new laptop computer to enjoy overseas. Jennie will be here in September for a visit. Gypsy (their dog) is doing fine and does not mind the 100-105 degree days. They do get some rain this time of year, but there is no place for it to go, so the little rain they get makes big floods.

Pray for his save return in December.

This is Gram L speaking....

Joanne and I went on an all-day boat ride yesterday.  We didn't gamble, but we ate the food. It was a nice time.  Joanne is leaving Florida tomorrow (or tonight in the middle of the night). She'll be flying all day on Friday.  George will be finishing his program in the next couple of weeks. It's been chaotic but interesting at my house.  I'm glad to hear Bill is teaching on Mondays and Fridays (although it's a pretty long day on Fri).  Right now I'm eating some delicious ice cream at Carolyn's and waiting for Jo and George to pick me up and take me back to Lantana. I guess they are out to dinner enjoying their last evening together before they are separated again.

Two Months

It has now been two months since I have seen Alex. The only time I spoke to him in that time is the day he told me he would not be attending my wedding. I have had no news from him, execpt for the few words Trace spoke about him when he was here for Father's Day. Trace said he was all right. I miss him and would love to talk to him but obviously he would rather not speak with me.

Such a waste to have a father a 40 minute ride away with a place on the beach and not visit. Such a pity to live with a woman that keeps him locked up like she does. Such a shame for a young man to be denied the love and guidance of a father who so much cares for him. Such a shame for him to quit coming to Reunion and recieve the fellowship and community there.

I'm Glad the Weekend Is Over

We had a very busy weekend. Thurdsay we went to the Field Museum to see our friend Roland Denis play drums in a band in the museum. They did real well and I became the offical tour photographer as Roland has a new digital camera he wanted pictures taken with. Of course I had to work till late on Friday, though I did get out of here by 10:00PM after starting at 8:00AM. Then Saturday consisted of getting the house ready for another party. John James is going to teach English in Kuwait, so the Hazlett-Helwig bunch thru him a luau at our house. The weather was rather cool, almost record breaking. But we had a great time. Hawaiian shirts, skirts, decorations and food. Sunday was church, setup, sing, tear-down. Finally a chance to rest in the evening. Now it is back to work. Now I can get back to normal and refresh for next weekend. Another luau, but not at our house.

nothing earth-shattering...

Jo and George and Gram L have spent Sunday and Monday in the Keys. Gram L got a new dining room set on Saturday, much to her excitement. Jay is busy choosing what language he'd like to learn in the Marines, and Carolyn has been to the doctor today (UTI, antibiotics). Now that's more information than you asked for, but it's all I know...

No hospital is strong enough to hold that woman for long

Glad to read that Delray hospital is no longer the home of the Lambert marticarch. We got home from a long day late last night and had to start another one early this morning. I am taking a break between classes now and can finally post here.

It sounds like she is on the mend, got her pacemaker checked and is back on her way. Now we can hope and pray that the experience makes her; and all of us; a little smarter, a little more in touch with our body, and prepared to treat it right.

We are having a going away party at our house on Saturday for a young man who is leaving to work in Kuwait for a couple of years. Saturday means cleaning up in preperations, the party, and cleaning up after. Sunday I am setting up and doing the sound at Church while Valerie will sing in the band. Afterwards we tear down and then have Book Tribe in the eveing, so we will not be home much Sunday, either.

I spoke to the administration here today. They are happy with my work and want me to pick up one more class for the fall. I will be teaching Monday evenings and on Friday all day. Here is the proposed Friday schedule:
8:00 AM - 12:00 Noon     Intro to PCs
1:00 PM -   5:00 PM        Intro to PCs
6:00 PM - 11:00 PM        Strategies for the Technical Professional

I will also teach the Problems Solving class on Monday from 6:00 PM to 11:00PM

Peace and Grace to you all.

Gram L got sprung!

The hospital could not hold Gram L...She broke out!  No more pureed matza ball soup for her.  They tried to keep her, but she escaped.  Now she's trying to talk someone into buying her a steak for dinner. John & Jean prepared some scrambled eggs, though, and then she'll go on home for the night.  Whew!  That was an ordeal. Glad it's over.

By the way, Jay:  we're all very proud of you on your language test.  Make it work for you!

Man that is not good news

Thanks for keeping us (me) informed. I know that you have been trying to call at my house but I have been very busy and away from home. I am at work now, taking a break. Please keep me up to date.

This is the first I knew that Joanne is in Florida, did she bring Becki with?

Gram L is in the hospital

Gram L is sitting in Delray Medical Center trying to get clear of an apparent bowel obstruction. Joanne took her there on Sunday evening about 11 pm, and they sat in the ER until 6 am. It was a busy night in the ER. At 9 am she was getting a cat scan. Please pray that they can get an NG tube down her so they can clear the blockage. So far the attempts to insert the tube have been unsuccessful. She is pretty tuckered out and in considerable pain.  Joanne is tired, too, having stayed at the hospital all night and into the day. I'll be going there at lunchtime. I'll update later.--Carolyn

Several issiues

Concerning Mom's dehydration. She needs to make sure she keeps getting enough water. The heat in Florida and the fact that as we age we lose the ability to monitor our body as well mean that she should drink even when she is not thirsty. This may sound like a small matter but it can cause other problems as well.

Joanne might be going to Florida? I hope she posts the details here for all to see.

I am curious how George's classes and job seeking are going.

Thanx for breaking the silence...

I was beginning to think the blog had gotten all blogged up! News: George has been here a month, and is spending the weekend in Orlando with the Conklins. Gram L had a "spell" this week, which had some of us worried, but it turns out she may have just been dehydrated. She seems to be better now, and the crisis is over. I THINK Joanne is coming to Florida in a week. That's all I know . . .

Fourth of July - Part 1

Jay's post reminded me that I have been lax in posting here as well. So I will tell the tale of my 4th of July.

Not much of tale, really. We left Friday the 2nd at about 11:30 AM. First we had to spend the morning getting the house straightened up. We let some friends from church stay here for the weekend. The husband has been out of work for almost a year with a bad back that got hurt at work. There has been a dispute with his work so he has not been paid the whole time. The couple had just recently bought a new house and the loss of his income has really hurt them. So they were glad for a chance to take a vacation by the shore. They reported having a great time here, though the storm Saturday knocked out the power for EIGHT HOURS, from 7PM to 3AM. They loved the fireworks Sunday night. All the neighbors tell me it was the best they have seen. The City of Gary, Ogden Dunes and many private parties all had great displays. Steve and Wendy got up Monday morning and acted like locals as they cleaned up the beach and complained about the tourists who leave cigarette butts, beer cans, garbage and fireworks detris all over the place. They left Monday at noon, they were afraid that if they got too comfortable at the beach they would never make it to their band practice. Wendy is the keyboardist and Steve is a guitarist in our church band, and they are also in a band with some friends. As a matter of fact that is how they met, when they were in a band together. Tuesday Steve got called back to work, the first time in 51 weeks. Thank God he was rested.

Anyway, on to my story. We drove live mad to Columbia, Tennessee. That is about 45 miles south of Nashville. We did get slowed down for an accident in Louisville and got off the expressway for about 60 miles at the Ken-Tenn boarder because of another. We got down there about 6:30 PM. We averaged over 75 MPH even including the gas and rest stops, and the stopping for accidents and all. Friday night there was a post-rehearsal party at the groom's folks house. Dee and Rick are old friends of Valerie's, she met them when she was pregnant with Marlana. Dee is the lady that stood up for Valerie at our wedding. Dee and two of her sisters all blind from a genetic condition. All three of them are quite capable of living full lives and get around well with no dogs or much use of canes.

Saturday I got up early and did a 35 mile bike ride in the Tennessee hill country there. A guy from Indiana needs to get some hill workout once in a while so I headed for the local back roads to climb some hills. It was a good workout and I got it done before the heat of the day started.

The wedding was in a brand new, large, beautiful Baptist church. The sound system was amazing and the video system was very impressive. Each had their own control room. It is great what you can do when you have the money. The wedding was about 25 minutes long. Paul and Angie exchanged rings and gave one to her five year old son, who was also the ring bearer. They even had a third candle for the boy. It was so sweet the way Paul took the boy as his son at the same ceremony as he took Angie for his wife.

We stopped at the CVS to have some pictures of the wedding developed on the way to the reception. Rick works at the Saturn plant in nearby Spring Hill. The reception was held at the UAW union hall, a fairly new and fancy building. We ate, toasted and danced well into the night. During the dancing Valerie dislocated her hip, threw it right of the socket. She has been doing in-home health care for a 24 year old woman who was in a car accident (no seat belt). The lifting has been bothering her back and hips and the grating on the dance floor put her right over the edge. This caused her to slow way down for the rest of the evening.

Fourth of July - Part 2

Sunday I got up early to get breakfast in the motel lobby and read the paper. I planned on another ride but the rain gave me an excuse not to go. The ride the day before and the dancing along with the weather had made me rather stiff. I came back to the room to watch the Tour d' France on OLN. Good stuff, that. Valerie and her daughters visited and chatted. We took the morning as a relaxation period, I took a dip in the pool and we chilled. Valerie was still in pain (and shock) from the hip thing.

Rick and Dee have a very nice 30 foot pool in the back yard with a large deck around it. They has a party Sunday afternoon for all the visiting friends and family. We enjoyed the pool and the chat. I took off for a while to get a ride in, more hill work. Back in the pool after that. The heat in Tennessee is not something we have had yet. It was over 90 each day and the humidity was oppressive. (We had a rather cool June. The only warm time was the weekend of our wedding.) Rick grilled hot dogs, hamburgers and Polish sausage. There was plenty of good food and beer. Dee and her many brothers and sisters are of Italian decent so they love to cook and eat. We finished the evening with lots of fireworks in their large yard.

The next day we got up and checked out (after watching the Tour again). Back to Rick and Dee's for a last visit and to help clean up a little. Then we drove home at a much more leisurely pace. We did not take the expressway the whole time but took some back roads to enjoy the view. We stopped at the Jim Beam works for a tour and a taste of some fine single barrel Bourbon. The Basil Hayden's was eight years old and very nice. It has a lot of rye in it that gives it a bit of a bite. The Booker's was uncut at 127 proof. Strong and dark, it has a lot of sweetness that comes from the aging in carmelized wooden barrels. MMMMmmmm good. We toured the place and waited out a storm front that poured down lots of rain. Then back on the highway to home.

When we got here it felt so nice. We could open the windows and enjoy the pleasant temps. 72 is so much more my range than 90. The breeze off the lake and the sound of the waves against the shore were most welcome. After all that heat and humidity it was so nice to sleep in my own bed, window open and the sounds lulling me...ah, home.

All in all it was a fun time; we visited, danced, drank a little, ate a lot, and rode some hills. We expect to see many of the same people again soon as Dee's mother is in her last days, getting hospice care. Weddings and funerals bring people together. It is nice the way Valerie's friends have taken me on as one of them, and her family has made me a part of it. Sorta makes me miss all of you, though.

I hope to see you all soon, any kids getting married in the near future.
